RTS Fleming Memorial Lecture 2008, Samir Shah
|
|
Thirty years and hundreds of equal opportunities initiatives have not secured places for Black and Asian Britons at the top tables of the creative side of UK broadcasting. The two currencies that really matter in this crucial part of the industry - commissioning budgets and airtime - continue to rest in the hands of white executives.
In this year's Fleming Memorial lecture, Samir Shah, independent producer and non-executive director of the BBC, examined the reasons for this failure, identified the barriers to success and suggested ways that could achieve breakthrough.
Samir Shah is Chief Executive of Juniper, an independent television production company. He was awarded an OBE in 2000, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Television Society in 2002 and is also a Fellow of the RSA. Samir is a non-executive Director of the BBC, a Trustee of the V&A, Chair of the Runnymede Trust and holds a Special Professorship in the Department of Post-Conflict Studies at The University of Nottingham.
The 2008 RTS Fleming Memorial Lecture was held on Wednesday 25 June 2008 at 6.15pm for 6.45pm at the BP Lecture Theatre, British Museum, Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3DG.
